GC Column Flow Calculator

This GC column flow calculator determines outlet column flow, average linear gas velocity, and hold-up time for a single capillary column using column dimensions, inlet and outlet pressures, temperature, carrier gas, and gas viscosity. Hold-up time and velocity are calculated assuming an outlet pressure of 14.696 psig for gas compressibility.

Want to understand how this calculator works behind the scenes?
The full article with explanation will be published soon at GC Hardware.

This calculator applies to single capillary columns operating under steady-state conditions. For systems involving multiple columns, restrictors, or pressure-controlled junctions, separate calculators are required to account for flow splitting and pressure interactions. Accurate estimation of column flow, linear velocity, and hold-up time is essential for method development, retention time prediction, and diagnosing performance issues.
